The Business Awards Show Interview
Posted on 5th May 2025 at 18:36
I was interviewed for The Business Awards Show Podcast and shared my story of how on 7th October 1972 I arrived with my mother and sister at a foggy Heathrow airport. Our family had fled Idi Amin's murderous regime in Uganda, as his nationalistic dictatorship sought to purge all minorities from the country.
Carrying only a suitcase, without even a warm coat to keep out the autumn cold, I started a new life in a foreign country, with an alien culture. I soon found employment at Luton Airport rising to senior HR management in a career that spanned over 35 years.
When I was made redundant, whilst a huge blow, I knew I had to carry on in HR. The only way in my mind to do that was to start her own business. Plain Talking HR was born.
I discussed the many challenges that employers face today, in an environment of ever-changing legislation. Having an expert to run HR operations has never been more essential, as I explained the risks of trying to do it yourself.
In 2021, I published my book, The Red Thread. A memoir of my mother's life but also offering insight into my own world, it is a moving and profound story with many life-lessons.
I am also a multi-award winner, and a long-time sponsor and supporter of awards. I explained in this interview why they mean so much to me and what they can do for your business.
Over the years, I have grown my business through the power of networking.
Listen and discover how this has powered me forward, and the many friendships I have developed as a result.
